Four tips for working out in a heatwave.

HYDRATE

Sounds like common sense but the hotter it is, the more you sweat, the more you need to drink. Guidelines say the average person should drink 6-8 glasses of water per day. In summer, when the heat is on, up this to ten.

BE AN EARLY RISER

As you may have noticed, the evening is often the hottest time of day. Set your alarm for an hour earlier in the morning and get out there while it’s cool. Summer evenings should be reserved for relaxing anyway.

INVEST IN THE RIGHT KIT

Choose lightweight, breathable materials that wick sweat away. These both help you stay cool and prevent any possible skin irritation.

SLOW DOWN

A heatwave is not the time to beat your personal best. Break your workout into intervals with 5-minute breaks in between to rest and re-hydrate.
